I only have a cheap PAYG Stupid Phone!
I remember the world of travel before smartphones as being full of inconvenience, unnecessary expense, and bewilderment. Particularly, the coming of Google Maps to phones opening up a world of (ground) public transport because - suddenly it was possible to know for sure where one was, and where one was going, rather than hoping for the best. I raise my hat to you for doing it your own way.
My fault for waiting until we got home, of course!
Whether that's driven by reluctance to spend holiday time on admin, or reluctance to risk one's flight home by having admin staff meddle with reservations following a complaint, I'm with you on this.
