My great score yesterday was the humble-sounding HIX Pensacola Beach. I love this property for award stays because every room has a gulf-facing balcony, so no worries about getting a lesser room because paying with points. Anyway, 20K yesterday comes down to 13.5K after 4NF & 10%. Today, the hotel is showing 66K-84K for my nights, and cash prices starting at $485.
Seeing those pricing on Florida beaches always make me laugh out loud, especially on old properties. I always wonder what type(s) of tourists would pay those prices.
We did a road trip to Pensacola and into Alabama in March. To my surprise, the properties on the Orange Beach at Alabama, may be less than an hour drive from Pensacola Beach, were like less than 50% of the prices. There is an HIX and may be another IHG property on the strip along the beach. We stayed at BonVoy's Fairfield as that trip was for BonVoy mattress run. And Orange Beach was very thriving, with lots and lots of new vacation properties of any genre. The sunset at the end of the barrier island was truly truly stunning.
