I recall in the old days gone bye when I would call in to book award flights. We are talking about early 1980s. I would go day by day with different routings until the agent confirmed and booked the award flight.
I would now recommend we all do this. Call for every award redemption and go by day by day and route by route. Spend as much time as it takes; until you get an acceptable booking.
