I stayed there recently on a weekday evening, rate was sub-$200, so pretty good. Got upgraded to one of the few suites, which was nice. Not my first stay. Hotel is perfectly fine, staff is friendly and pleasant. Good wifi, shower pressure, etc. I think it's a good deal for NYC, better value for money than the PHNY or the Andaz at the current rates well north of $500.
