Regarding SQ vs UA (or NH), I'd go for direct flight. As much as people love NH, nothing beats direct flights unless one has time to burn or want to experence various airlines. Being there and done that in the past thrity years and now I am just focusing on minimum hassles during travels.
Love flying UA and SQ for different reasons, and being GS and PPS allow me to experience the best of both worlds.
Is the SQ flight during the day or night? That may determine if you plan to stay awake or sleep. UA's seats are best to sleep and rest, but SQ seats are best if you want to stretch out and work. Food, beverage, services are definitely better on SQ. UA gives you lot's of RDMs. I prefer the SQ IFE contents.
I splitg my flights between SQ and UA. Between US and foreign destinations on UA, and flights between EU/Asia/AuNZ on SQ.
I don't think you can go wrong with either choices.

Another vote for NH; I like the stopover and taking a shower is refreshing. However I would also consider departure and arrival times and how they fit your schedule.
I was there ten days ago and it was packed. Both NH lounges were full. (one in gate 50 area and one close to gate 28).. Long lines to showers and no places to sit.
Shopping lines were also long at duty free outlets.
