You are right. I should say for similar situation (expensive flight, price could swing), booking from United directly is better. I did not expect such big price drop though, since the ticket price was crazily high for a while. So even though I know it was nonrefundable ticket, I still booked it, because I did not expect to change it.
Could you elaborate the reasons that Chase Travel is better?
