The TBIT gatekeeper incidents have definitely decreased since the pandemic started. They were already on the decline in my estimation, but I don't think I've encountered an issue there in a while.
I encountered them a few times pre-pandemic . . . as suggested above, I've always just said "thanks, I'm going to the lounge" and kept walking. They have no authority to do anything.

Yes, and just to be clear, this is an express published LAX policy. IIRC, it was adopted shortly after the *A lounge first opened.
