Tip upon checkout is the way to go. As for amount, that can vary according to personal preferences. When I broke an ankle there (not their fault) three years ago, I tipped $2K on a six-night stay. Normally I do a percentage starting at 18% (I make someone else do the math). When calculating that, I do not include taxes, etc.

Do you usually tip additional when there's already a 10% or 15% service charge added to the room rate?
