Unfortunately I did not bother to walk over to " take a look at the Waterside" And Hilton is my preferred, goto primary chain , not Hyatt-
I came to this thread hoping to read a lot of current details about The Waterside.
( Considering Huntington Beach again this August )
My impression , from 6 nights at the Hyatt Regency last year) was that Huntington Beach is not an over the top polished deluxe luxury destination. It's about walks on the beach , watching the surfers from the pier , Duke's, The awesome sushi restaurant In the very small downtown and Babola etc etc .
And watching the Surfers again! hey it's Surf City USA
If you want over the top the Waldorf Monarch is also in Orange County.
Huntington Beach is so pedestrian friendly and the mall is next door.
I don't understand all the whining about breakfast prices , resort fees and parking fees. This is the hospitality industry today. And now $30 per room credit can be spent anywhere. ( not exclusively the expensive buffet) I really wished this forum focused on room típs , upgrade pointers,
and that those who do actually stay posted two or three paragraphs post trip . Now that would be great a an amazing resource
we have such a amazing community on FT and very savvy travelers.
But not this thread in particular but all over complaints about a resort fee. That's the industry standard.
If you don't want to pay a resort fee , Don't travel, or buy honors points at 50 basis points and redeem at 5 nights for 4. An additional benefit, you won't pay taxes either
Basically , A revenue stay needs to factor in resort fees, parking( if you drive there).
Threads seem to be all about what are perceived to be maybe an excessive $20 a day in parking fees. ( i.e.- $42 instead of $22)
Well it's a profit center for them. Overpriced parking is here is stay.
At now any hotel with a tiny pool and near the beach calls it's self a "resort"
I don't think that the Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach Resort has a pool ( I could be wrong) but even they have a (Resort fee) of $35 ($39.97 inclusive of tax).
And If it's not a "resort fee" , then a "destination fee"
It's not going away. overpriced parking and resort.destination fees are here.
As a MORE THAN TWENTY YEAR FLYER TALKER, I respectfully think we can be so much more to each other as a community!
Re a $100 breakfast for two for diamonds yeah that's unfortunate. But it is what is is.
I remember 6 night rewards ( for elite) for 100,000 points. That was for all six nights not per night.
And was there an African Safari for 250,000 points ?
And I vaguely recall a. Las Vegas reward that actually give you non restricted cashable chips with the room.
At least here you are not captive to the breakfast prices.
The Mall is literally next door. Think about remote resorts where we are a captive market and have no choice on the food prices.
Vote with your feet and eat at the mall with a lot of great choices.
