My YYZ - EWR flight earlier today, I was #2 with 6 open seats and asked when I was boarding if they were going to upgrade me because clearly there were seats. They upgraded me but then departed with 4 empty F seats and 6 people still on the list.
I enjoyed having the F row to myself on the E175 but seriously how does that happen?
