I'm on my last night of a 3-night stay here, and wanted to post a quick review.
GOOD:
- SNA cleared at 5 nights out from a regular king room to a cool corner king (but I do have to point out that the naming of rooms at W hotels is beyond silly).
- Staff have generally been friendly and helpful. Tonight's bartender offered a wealth of knowledge regarding local restaurants and watering holes.
- I like that the room has a fully-stocked mini-bar including all kinds of drinks and a nice selection of snacks.
- The climate control system in the room does a good job, and doesn't crap out in the middle of night like some places that have motion sensors.
OKAY:
- The location is a PITA to get to. Driving here and trying to drop off my rental car at the valet has been problematic every single time. Boston, like many big cities, can have clogged streets downtown, but the W is in a place that will ALWAYS be clogged. And their long curb in front of the hotel always seems to be full.
- I've been working long hours so ordered dinner from room service twice. While it's refreshing to get food served on an actual tray with actual dishes and actual silverware, the food itself has been tolerable but disappointing.
- Soundproofing in the rooms is not the best. I can clearly hear traffic noise from outside, and every slamming door on the entire floor at all hours of the day and night.
BAD:
- There are weird quirks in the room like the fact that the windows make this loud CRACK sound every time I walk near the bathroom (and I can hear the same from the rooms above and below me), and the HVAC vent in the bathroom has so much disgusting dust and grime on it that it looks like it hasn't been cleaned since the hotel opened.
- I was pretty excited to go to the lobby bar tonight to hear the DJ, who was highlighted by the associate when I checked in, on pamphlets in the room, and on the little TVs in the elevator. He did play good music, but can't mix! I admit I'm a pro DJ too, so I may hold higher standards than some, but they could put a bluetooth speaker playing SiriusXM if they just wanted music to switch from song to song. I expect someone who is paid to DJ at an upscale place like this to be able to mix songs together.
- Speaking of elevators, one of the two has had a "we're doing emergency maintenance" sign on it my entire stay.
- As an ambassador elite whose only room preference is "high floor", it's disappointing to be on the 7th (of 15) floors.
