Schiphol has promised security staff a €5.25/hour supplement during the summer months, in the hope of attracting more staff. However, they are going to pay this to people who are not employed directly by the airport, but by various security companies. The latter are now protesting, saying that Schiphol is distorting the labor market. Security personnel fall under one of two collective bargaining agreements, and now some of them will be paid a bonus by a company that doesn't even employ them directly. I can see why the security companies are less than happy, it may make it harder for them to deploy staff elsewhere, where the workers will have to settle for regular pay.

Cabin crew union VNC has joined the chorus of malcontents, blaming the owners of the airport (the state and the city of Amsterdam) for the mess, and whinging about the government loans that kept KLM afloat during the pandemic, but came with strings attached, such as limiting raises and perks.
