Medical diversions are relatively rare, but when they happen it is based on a decision that someone might be better off if the plane diverts. I think I have only been on 3 medical diversions out of about 4 to 5 million BIS miles. This may surprise you, but they usually don't plan these, so when they arrive they have hundreds of passengers for whom the staff may not be prepared. And, given the way that airline crews are staffed, there is a good chance that the delay of your QR flight has nothing to do with the delay or your AA flight. Is there some question here?
Nobody is arguing the medical diversion. What people are mad about - as usual - and rightfully so, is AA's complete lack of ability to manage the event and their dumping of everyone in LHR without clearly communicating a plan and next steps.
