pretty poor stuff compared to the regular meal and a great shame because I’ve had some great vegetarian meals in Japan. Shojin Ryori, Buddhist temple cuisine, is something I seek out every time I visit japan.

There’s always Hindu Veg and Oriental veg options to take a chance on.
Agreed that those dishes look awful, but they're all ex-US. That said, the best VLMLs I've had have been ex-US, with the most notable being one out of JFK on SN on my way to BRU. The one served on the return flight from BRU was more akin to a VGML and was not good. FPML and RVML would be safe but boring bets. I wouldn't order AVML, or VOML as my primary source of protein is dairy products.

I did find photos of what their main competitor (ANA) serves in Y for a VLML ex-Japan, and it actually looked very good. That said, both airlines seem to run their own catering services ex-Japan, so this is bound to be different.

Here's hoping there are more insights as this is quite a large forum.
