I don't think CMB is anyone's idea of glamour, but if there's not availability to MLE and OP wants to get as close to MLE as possible before having to take the shortest possible flight to MLE, CMB is probably a good idea. I agree that going through DXB/AUH/DOH would be my preference, but unclear if OP has non-ST miles.
