Just had a three night stay here. It was an average to poor experience.

Upgraded to a cool corner king proactively (I am Ambassador). Asked about anything better at check in, but they confirmed it was a sell out.

The young lady at check in was training but very friendly. She actually turned out to be the best member of staff. No one proactively recognised my status and it took a few mins to get my free breakfast (well, 96$ credit per day) and 100 USD F&B credit recognised. Overall, an underwhelming experience.

The rooms are okay. Shower pressure was weak and it’s not a rainfall shower. Tiling in the bathroom looks pretty cheap. Bed is the usual comfortable W one. Air con was a single functioning vent out of four, but luckily it was a plucky vent - I am not sure how hot Boston gets in the summer but it sufficed for May. Nice new Samsung TV in the room. Chair and sofa were actually okay for a W and looked new.

I did not receive a welcome gift of any kind, despite it being a Luminous rate. I couldn’t be bothered to explain this to anyone. In Europe/UK, I usually receive a bottle of bubbly, fruit, snacks etc, as Ambassador.

Breakfast is fine but wildly overpriced. Service isn’t exactly friendly or especially competent. It’s just kind of average and perfunctory. The orange juice comes from a carton. The bacon is destroyed in the conventional American manner.

We ordered room service to help use up our F&B credit, as we couldn’t be bothered with any of the outlets. The hotel added a 22% service charge and $6.50 delivery charge to this. For context, I’ve previously received room service breakfast at W Amsterdam until the afternoon, without even a tray charge, and with no cap on spending.

The best thing about the hotel is the location. This was my first time in Boston and the US, and the hotel was ideally placed for the central sites.

The hotel is definitely overpriced, but it looks like Boston is generally a bad place for hotel pricing relative to the quality of the establishments. For my dates, we had a thrilling choice between paying $250 or whatever for a Moxy, staying at the W for around $375, or stumping up a million dollars for the RC and Four Seasons, both of which also looked shite. We managed to get a Luminous promotional offer that knocked something like 25% off the rate when we booked, and it also included the breakfast and credit etc. Overall, it still cost over $1100 for three nights. I believe the elite breakfast benefit is 50$ based on some confusion at breakfast, which will cover a restrained breakfast and a coffee for about one person tbh.

In conclusion, the hotel was poor value for the money and I would not return. For context, I have stayed at the W hotels in Amsterdam (multiple times), London, Abu Dhabi and Barcelona. They would all destroy this hotel on their worst day. I have stayed at most of the good Bonvoy hotels you can name in Europe and a couple in the Middle East. I did not feel valued as an elite here and the quality of the hotel did not justify the price tag.

We were quite pleased to leave.

Happy to answer any questions.
