Excalibur surprised me with how decent the room and furnishings were; the casino is kind of crappy.

My tips:

(1) check in at the special MGM Gold front desk. Do not check in online. Make sure that the FDA tells you (A) your Hyatt number is associated with your MGM account AND (B) your resort fees are waived because of your MGM status.
(2) stay or don't stay. No one cares. I stayed in the room for 1 night on my first visit, and for 2 nights on my second visit.
(3) check out via the online app.
(4) my 5 night stays posted on Monday following a Friday check-out (3 days later) without any calling or tweeting.

According to the Hyatt app my two 5-night stays had $232 and $148 of qualifying spend per 5-night stay, respectively. I don't plan to figure out exactly how much these mattress runs cost me because there were other expenses besides the price of the hotel room. For example, gasoline; uber; flights; food and drink. But it was worth it for me. I live 600+ miles away so it was relatively easy for me to accomplish. My time is valuable; not sure how to factor my time into the equation.

Lessons learned:
When I go back again this summer with spouse or child I will stay at Park MGM for their non-smoking hotel and casino and probably spend the extra $$$ for the daily food credit. For such a trip I would plan on staying in the hotel for the visit and not "leaving early" like I did at the Excalibur.
did you book this through Hyatt or MGM?
