I would consider booking together as it's possible to get a cash upgrade on people with multiple passengers.
The risk of booking two separate tickets would be that you can't upgrade both people at the same time thus if there is one seat available for a cash upgrade at that time, both reservations would receive that offer but only the first to pay would get the upgrade.
