what if I plan to check-in at 11pm, can I canecel by 11pm the day before? I presume not…. And that Hyatt means 24h prior to standard check-in time.
they could be clearer…
I recently received the below guidance from the Globalist team regarding the wording:
Actually Hyatt has recently changed a bit of the cancellation policy. The new policy is, that if the cancellation policy states 48 hours (2 days) prior arrival, it means that you have time to cancel until 11:59 PM. Example, if your arrival would be on Wednesday March 9th, it means you can cancel until Monday March 7th, before midnight (11:59 PM).
So not 24/48/72 hrs prior to standard check-in, but instead prior to 0:00 of the day on which you originally planned to check in.
This is also reflected on Hyatt's website (COVID-19 Update | Hyatt Hotels, emphasis is mine):
Subject to certain restrictions, reservations confirmed or changed by an Explorist, Globalist or Lifetime Globalist can be cancelled until 11:59 p.m. the day before arrival, when the hotel’s or resort’s cancellation period is not more than 48 hours prior to check-in.
