It reminds me of when I was working for Disney on the Shanghai project. My whole life I thought the city was pronounced "shang-hi", but was quickly corrected that it is actually "shong-hi". So I pronounced it that way in all my Disney interactions, but have since gone back to the old way because it just sounds so pretentious to say it the right way!
Wow, I had no idea about Shanghai! The only other thing I can think of like this is "Porsche" - I think it's supposed to be "Porsha" rather than "Porsh". Still though, I always feel pretentious saying "Porsha".
