Upgrades are nice when you get them, but they are not really an advertised feature of the Diamond program. In fact, after being a Diamond member for many years, I can recall many Conrad (e.g. Singapore, Hong Kong & London) where I have never been upgraded to a suite, although I have stayed there many times. Perhaps that is due to the hotels not having too many suites to start with?
Indeed and a property such as Bangkok has a vast amount of Diamonds staying. They will prioritise those who stay a lot, those who earn diamond from revenue not free from credit cards etc. Corner room is a good upgrade and a decent size room, if you book deluxe and get a Grand Premium Room it is 4 step upgrade.
