I'm not sure I follow. Delta's operations team has the ability to keep track of which planes have which seating config. Having two sub-fleets of A321s is no different than having two different planes in the fleet.
A220 first flight got pushed back by two weeks if I recall correctly. I can't speak for others, but I had to rebook myself (to a more expensive ticket).
How much is the ticket going for now? I checked last night, and the cheapest was $649 in Y.
