KLM award availability problem

Any way to solve this problem? I wanted to book a DEN-MUC C class award with OP miles. I have 80.7k miles so the TATL has to be on NW/KL. I was able to find C award seats on NW to AMS on 4/14-17. I thought that would be the hard part. So I check WPAA lister and find loads of availability on KL for the onward trip AMS-MUC and return. 5 flights a day each way and all are available in both classes, both ways. So, I call the OP int'l award desk (twice) and they insist there is no award availability on those days to MUC. They say the same for any # of other destinations w/i Europe I suggest. So obviously, CO draws from a different award bucket. One agent says that seats will be released later. However, my DEN-AMS-DEN reservation is on a 10 day hold. If I ticket and try to add MUC later, I'm sure they will consider it a destination change and charge me fees or the new 100k NW mileage price. If I don't ticket the res. I'm unlikely to be unable to find award seats later on the TATL legs. I thought the "seemless" Skyteam integration would avoid these issues. Anyone have any suggestions for a way to get around this problem?
