Ah interesting. Incidentally I'd missed the promo code when I signed up initially, so I signed up again (using the promo code); got the 2500 bonus Avios and now can search awards (with a balance of 2500).

Mulling over booking a flight in First from Doha to Sydney and trying to work out if it's best to use Avios or burn some Qantas Points (which are seemingly becoming increasingly worthless these days for anything other than upgrades on QF...)
