As others have noted the easiest step would be delta to fix its IT so that these types of changes would be doable directly by the user.
On the OP’s case, an option to consider, assuming you have enough miles, is to book the new tickets and then cancel the old ones. That’s what the system eventually does so no sense of “keeping the original booking but changing flights”
