For a family of 4, maybe, though at $100/card maybe they just pay the guest fees a couple times a year. For a spouse, no way. It would bump them to get their own card, which is probably the point, as Amex would boost its fee revenue.
Ironically, both my wife and I have the Platinum card this year. It was her turn and I called Amex to product change to the Gold card, but was offered $400 for spending $3000 in 3 months. I never asked and didn't even leave it open by saying I was merely considering changing. So if you see anyone outside a Centurion lounge waving at you for free guest entry, it could be us haha.
