Anyone know the background about why it’s so difficult for them to refund them at the same speed they can to credit card and travel bank?
The full consolidation of WSD across the whole program requires input from the RBC credit card earnings and possibly other sources, including any credits related to airline partner programs. Different expiries also affect WSD credits. RBC only sends WestJet account credits on a monthly basis based on the credit card billing cycles (although nightly transmissions occur, as everyone has different billing dates). Overall the audit and consolidation process used to be linked to the RBC consolidation (and probably still is, but I’m not an insider anymore, so can’t say for certain).

Theoretically those with WSD that don’t have an RBC WestJet credit card could be credited right away, but the overall program is based on processes for an integrated credit system based on a monthly cycle.
