Any suggestions on how to use MR for domestic travel on these airlines for this route?
What date(s) of travel are you considering? AA's MileSAAver redemption rate on that route in Economy is 12,500 AAdvantage miles. Economy "Web Special" redemptions might be available for more or less than the "MileSAAver" rate. As a general rule, if aa.com is offering award seats at or below the MileSAAver redemption rate, those seats should be available for redemption by partner programs. For that route, BA would charge 11,000 Avios + $5.60 per person, one way.

But I would also check cash fares on that route, including on Southwest, bookable only at southwest.com. Southwest flies out of both ORD and MDW.
