Happened to me today in Athens. Called an Uber. 8 minutes away. Perfect. He doesn't move for at least 5 minutes. Then drives in the complete opposite direction. Wasn't going to cancel. Curious to see what his scam was. Used a different app to hail a car and get me on my way, while watching my Uber driver farther and farther away, for 45 minutes! What surprised me was he then finally did turn around and came to the pick up point, and then he cancelled! Very entertaining. No fee on my end. Hope I wasted as much of his time as possible.
I wonder if he may be genuinely lost. Had multiple instances with drivers that constantly misses turns even with the GPS navigation. Certainly not qualified for the job but I don't believe Uber drivers have to undergo any type of evaluation before they can become a driver.
