AA has some weird rule about this.
I was flying BUF-ORD-BNA last fall and the BUF-ORD had a 4-hour rolling delay.
I get a paged at the gate telling me I'm going to be rerouted through PHL.
Get the BUF-PHL gate and the agent refuses to rebook me because I have checked bags and the reroute has to be done two hours in advance because of that.
PHL flight leaves without me but the agent did at least get me rebooked on a sold out later ORD-BNA flight. I have never heard of this two hour rule before during IROPS but I was in no position to argue.
