I just recently moved from Europe to the US and I fly a few times per year between Germany and US, mostly Premium ECO and Business. In the last couple of years, I was part of the Miles and More program and collected miles there. However, I never managed to get the 100k miles, meaning I am just Miles and More silver customer.

A colleague recently mentioned how "easy" it is to get Premium Gold at MileaguePlus for just 7000PQP. This means by just spending $7000 I would get Mileage Plus Gold and a complimentary Star Alliance Gold status. That looks too good to be true compared to 100k miles at Lufthansa for Miles and More Gold which provides Star Alliance Gold.

I would now start to collect Mileage Plus miles instead of miles and more miles to get the Star Alliance Gold. Two business flights back and forth with United would get me Mileage Plus Gold and Star Alliance Gold assuming the total cost exceeds $7k. Is there something I did not consider? The only downside is that Miles and More is offering the status when achieved for two years, whereas United does it only for 1 year, right?
