I believe ANU is double-catered, so if they used up a lot of glassware in the prior flight, they will be short on the return.
Also, it's technically a health code violation to reuse a glass from someone else, even if that person is your wife. Next time, just self-help and pour the drink from the plastic cup into the glass yourself.
