I was thinking the same thing. With the elite bonus calculated using base miles- it's not a huge difference for QR discounted J earning. But to your earlier point- a non-status member who would have earned a good amount of EQM/EQD on the same ticket is getting shafted (this is actually how I gained AA status in the last year)
