Great!
the whole check in was about thirty minutes but at the end she had me sign 4 papers one of which was for the cost of a bunch of random upgrades, like spa packages, lounge floor, various room types. She never mentioned any fee so I just signed them and went on my way. I had a copy of the packages and noticed the Presidential suite said $450 next to it. Fine, I’ll pay the $450 for my stay. I called down to confirm the upgrade was free and they said no. I asked if the $450 was for the length of the stay or per night and they said per night.
I said no thanks, just put me in the normal suite and have the manager call me so I can explain my frustration. When I finally talked to the manager, the more frustrated I got the less willing they were to listen to me and actually say anything.
Anyway, long story short, it feels like a Colombian service thing. I’ve had many stays at the JW here without issue but the W in bogota is a mess. I actually ended up in the Presidential suite when I got ahold of their brand new GM and he said no worries, you can have the room.
Uhh- This does not sound like a " Columbian service issue". To be told $450 is for the stay when you accepted it and then be told it is per night is totally unacceptable. This sounds like a "money grab" of a foreigner in a poor country.
If the room you got is in fact a lower category than what you paid for , you should be able to get at least the difference in cost back Maybe more) from corporate once you return.
If in fact they did really overbook the type of room you paid for for , hotels do that. I'd speculate that maybe they wanted to save it for a Columbian traveler.
