If it was me, I probably would not back down. Surely Marriott will help out if the hotel drops the ball. I wouldn't let it go and try to get something documented if possible.

Good catch. Always a good idea to check room descriptions prior to booking, particularly for latin america, where "suite" doesn't always mean what we think it does in English.
