Exactly. I find all this 'it is unfair' and 'I am more deserving of elite status than they are' talk all purely self-serving, largely without unbiased logic, and somewhat laughable because for everyone who posts such, someone else can say same about the poster. Who is to say the person complaining about others being comped are themselves 'deserving' of elite status? Where do we draw the line and who draws that line?

The current year has produced elites via many pathways including:

1. Those who were granted an extra year of status without flying in 2020
2. Those who were granted an extra year of status but did fly (but not enough to qualify for status) in 2020.
3. Those who qualified because of fly to finish promotion
4. Those who qualified based on reduced 2021 qualification thresholds but with the aid of bonus and starter PQPs and promotions.
5. Those who qualified based on reduced 2021 qualification thresholds independent of bonus and starter PQPs and promotions
6. Those who would have qualified based on the preCOVID revised 2020 criteria but spending mainly OPM
7. Those who would have qualified based on the preCOVID revised 2020 criteria but spending mainly their own money.

I am sure there are other pathways I haven't mentioned.
​​​​​​Unless the people complaining are in group 7 above, there is always someone who can also argue that the person complaining UA has unfairly extended status has also been unfairly 'gifted' elite status. I bet you many who say they 'qualified' organically or whatever and are complaining about UA doing blanket extension of status are in reality in group 3 or 4 (and maybe few in 5) and also would also not have qualified had UA not had promotions....
