Yes. Fare class is based on the fare, which would be the booking code used on the UA segment assuming this is fared as LAX-HNL.

I have never had an issue with SDC onto an all UA-metal routing with an 016 ticket. You do have to call; the fact that I was always 1K may have helped I don't know. It also might be semantics; barring edge cases with abusing the routing rules and day/time restrictions (and I guess validating other downline inventory), the difference in fare for an eligible SDC is zero anyway.
