We are 3 adults, so upgrade to suite is a huge consideration for our travel.
I don’t know that there is an undisputed best property in NYC (Marriott or otherwise). I think the STR is the closest to a consensus best but it’s clearly not for everyone. Personally, I like the NY EDITION as a redemption a lot. It has a better location than most Marriott properties in the city and is only a category 7 when room rates often go for $1K a night. It would not be my pick for cash stays, however.
Also, the hotel is small (and the suite inventory is too). Given how popular the hotel has been lately, it might be difficult to get a suite even when you are willing to pay for it (let alone as a complimentary upgrade) on certain weekends.
