IC Chicago The Magnificent Mile

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Eventually

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Suite in Grand Tower, received King Suite in Grand Tower. Initially, no upgrades available, but a King Suite in Exec Tower opened up the next day so we moved.

How are the rooms?
The first suite was just OK. No view at all and the bedroom was small, couldn't even open the dresser door because the bed was in the way. 2 bathrooms but they were pretty basic.

The second suite was much better! Views of the river from bedroom and living room windows and much more spacious. 2 bathrooms and the main bathroom was gorgeous.

How is the exec. lounge?
No lounge.
Breakfast in the restaurant with a choice of buffet or order off the menu. I picked the buffet which was actually great. Several different hot choices (2 kinds of eggs), sausage, bacon, pancakes, many cold choices, smoked salmon, cucumbers, tomatoes, bagels, bread, pastries, different cheeses, meats, cereal, fruit.
The hotel also provided a breakfast coupon which I actually prefer since many times I've gotten charged for breakfast after I check out and have to call the hotel to get the charge removed.

Did you receive a welcome gift?
Fruit and water and since it was my birthday and we weren't upgraded, received some amazing chocolate cake, a piece of cheesecake, bottle of Prosecco.

How was the minibar?
Empty but I got a list of items that I could order. Mini bottles of liquor but no mixers (only sparkling water), full size bottles of sparkling wine (J Roget for $36) and red wine, no beer. You could order whatever, whenever so they didn't stick to the $50/day max

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
LocationSuite in Exec Tower once we got upgraded
Concierge had contacted me in advance by phone which was a nice touch and since no room upgrades were initially available, he went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed.
The staff in general were very friendly and accommodatingBreakfast buffet

-Bad
Not a lot of mini bar options
No upgrade initially. Not sure why some properties wait until the day of check-in to upgrade RAs, especially when they are busy. There were upgradeable rooms available a few days before we checked in.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
Yes, room rates were still pretty low

Would you return?
Yes
