TSA geants PreCheck rights to those enrolled in PreCheck, Nexus, Global Entry and those with a Department Defense ID number.

function. Of course the airline checks with DHS by providing the passenger's KTN. The point is if the airline doesn't have the KTN (or doesn't participate in PreCheck) then there's nothing the passenger can do directly with DHS/TSA to gain the benefit. It was in the context of the question asked here if someone can show their GE or Nexus card and go through the PreCheck lane. They can't because it has to be on their BP.
