I get your pain.
Not sure how buying a BS seat helps. I could actually make an argument that boarding later would be better. YOU can then pick a row with "regular" size folks to sit with, vs boarding early and then waiting for the big guy to come sit with you.
When I flew DL, this happened to me often.
