As always I'd take this question to your, or the traveler's doctor, but in general I'd think that anything involving atmosphere pressure changes should be addressed with the physician also. This is me assuming you mean while flying since this is Flyertalk.
Actually, it was in general--does she need to avoid activities that need masks in the first week? No flying.
