I see this being even less of a hassle for domestic travel, unless you get some over-zealous TSA agent (at which point, what you do is you go book a fully refundable ticket under the name that matches the ID, use that to clear security, then cancel that ticket - a bit of a hassle but a work-around if needed).

It may not hurt to call DL in advance and just ask them to note this in the ticket/PNR and if the check-in agent initially questions it, ask them to reference the note in the PNR.
Over zealous TSA agent would be my concern. How long did you travel?
