+1 and I visited the Wednesday Hilo farmers market and at at the Farmers Market Kitchen stand. +1 went to Poke 'n' Sides; when compared to the true local-style poke (Tamura's, for example) bowls we get in Honolulu, this was more like the versions we see on the mainland with more garnishes and less poke. So, I'd probable look to go to Suisan (closed on Wednesdays), KTA Supermarket, or some of the other places in Downtown Hilo for better poke. One of my friends who lives in Hilo met us and he and I went to the Pad Thai food truck next to the stand and their food was very good and fresh; Hilo remains a really solid place for decent Thai. There's a covered seating area with picnic benches for easy dining of take out orders or you can drive to one of the shoreline parks for a better view.

We also made our mandatory stop at Two Ladies Kitchen for the best strawberry mochi/daifuku in the state but be warned, it can only be taken off-island via inter-island Hawaiian Airlines flights. Southwest and mainland flights are subject to agriculture screening and the daifuku do not meet the standards to be taken out of the state. They only have a shelf life of a day or so, so order wisely.

The fun find was a little coffee shop called Koana in sleepy Mountain View, which is about halfway between Hilo and the entrance to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It's a small one-man shop next to the bakery that makes stone cookies and has excellent selections of local coffees and worth a stop.
