Is this a recent change? I know Hawaiian used to charge bag fees regardless of AA status or fare. However, based on my experience of a few years ago, when the trip starts on an inter-island flight on HA with an AA codeshare flight number the baggage allowance is based on the passenger's AA status/fare.
