On most flights you would be spending extra points to do this and would add a layer of complexity if anything goes wrong since you now have an Expedia reservation instead of a WN reservation. I have seen quite a few people posting that they are still fighting with Expedia and Chase to get their UR back after WN cancelled their flight.
I could be totally wrong, but I thought the cancel funds went back to the passenger from Southwest as future travel funds. Also, if you have the reserve, it books tickets at 1.5 value,meaning a $150 flight would only cost 10,000 points. ($100)
Somebody please correct me if wrong.
