Just to clarify for the quoted post and to respond to some earlier posts implying I should have booked earlier or was upgraded last minute)…

We had purchased J seats together on our original flight. Weather was causing all sorts of cancellations at our departure airport, eventually including our original flight.

I had been eyeballing other options throughout the day on EF and noted all the single seats on the flight we did eventually take were occupied, as well as all but one of the pairs of seats in row 4, so originally both of us couldn’t have flown the flight in question. However, about 4-5 J seats opened up later, as others changed their flights also (probably quite a few misconnections involved).

One seat on the single side opened up, and the adjacent aisle was also open, so we figured it would be easier to switch having those two seats, compared to any other pairs of two seats that were available.

I doubt this lady has an EF subscription and was checking it regularly for single seats to open up. She very possibly chose her seat intentionally, or it may have been one of the only ones left when she booked or was upgraded. I’ll never know.

That’s the series of events that led to us looking to switch last minute, just in case it helps provide some
better background to the story.

By the way, I feel I need to clarify again, based on some recent posts, the purpose of this thread was not to complain about the passenger who didn’t want to switch seats. It was to discuss what her reasons may have been, and I think many good ideas were posted here. Thanks everyone for contributing.

Very true. We’re all here mostly for the entertainment value and to learn as much as we can about what is a hobby here for many.

I think some people got a bit carried away in this thread criticizing me for speculating about this other passenger’s thought process. I simply thought it would be an entertaining topic.

Fortunately, I’m at least slightly more obsessed with the inner workings of my own business than I am with AA.
