I agree with you in principle, however I don't see that happening for a a couple reasons:
- If the need for the 787-10 was there, they would have ordered it.
- Even if the need is there now, they cannot afford it.
If and when demand recovers, there's no reason why LY couldn't retrofit the 777 fleet with the same cabin interiors as the 787's and use them to help grow / recover to a healthy point. Once the books are balanced and the company is no longer loosing money, an order for new aircraft could be considered.
