I have to say personally I would just get to Florence and do 3 nights there, extra effort on that first day but will allow you to settle more than be on the move within 24 hours of arriving, plus it will give you an extra night at one the best hotels around! If that isnt flexible I must say I would do 3 in Florence and 3 on Rome.
