Of course T3 was added later. Back in the early/mid 1990s, it was quite an experience, I think there were only three luggage carousels for international arrivals, but it actually worked pretty well, all things considered.....
Oh okay. I thought you might have been referring to one of those random airports north of the city that have never received a lot of love.
I wouldn't describe replacing terminals (in the case of PEK) as closing the airport though.
